Make a positive difference in the lives of children

Camp Care-A-Lot depends entirely on volunteers. 30 full time overnight staff and dozens of part time staff are needed to have a successful week at camp, every year. The number of campers we can accommodate is directly related to the number of FULL TIME volunteers. 1 adult, age 21 or over, for every 3-4 campers is the ideal situation. Each dorm (with indoor plumbing) group consists of 2 counselors and a counselor assistant (age 18-20) with 7-9 campers. Junior counselors are chosen from a select group of past campers and are part of the groups as well. Staff orientation, to learn how to handle everyday activities and camper situations is conducted for 1 & 1/2 days prior to camp. Male and female FULL TIME counselors are needed immediately.

PLEASE NOTE:
Applications for full time counselors are due with commitments by March 15, 2010.
Applications for part time volunteers are due with commitments by May 15, 2010.


Camp dates are July 17, 2010 (staff orientation) July 18-24, 2010 for campers and staff.

The following is a list of volunteer opportunities and their general responsibilities: COMMITMENTS MUST BE MADE BY MAY 15, 2010, IN ORDER THAT WE SUCCESSFULLY FACILITATE THE CAMP PROGRAM. THANKS.

When you make a commitment for ANY position, please keep the entire commitment. We rely on this help to make camp go more smoothly. Please do not plan on bringing anyone else that day, without prior permission by the camp director or executive director as this is for SECURITY reasons. All volunteers must be 21 or over. For insurance reasons and the attention of our campers, please do not bring your children "to help". Thanks for your help and dedication to the children of our future!!!

* Saturday, July 17th

  • 5:30PM- 2-3 males to help lift heavy boxes at Neil Tire storage in Jacksonville.
  • 6:30-9:00PM- 2-3 males or females to help organize materials at camp in Pittsfield. Camp set-up (unload crafts, clothes, linens and supplies, organize and set up)

* Sunday, July 18th Jville to Pittsfield -

  • 10:30AM-Noon - 3 people at registration in Springfield (place to be decided). Pack up camper luggage, sign in campers OR greet parents/agency representatives.
  • 11:00AM-1:30PM Registration at 1st Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville
  • 11:30AM to 1:30PM - 2 vans or covered pick up trucks needed to transport camper luggage from drop off point to camp in Pittsfield.
  • 2:30PM-5:00PM -1-2 people to assist with handing out camper materials, clothing and linens at camp in Pittsfield.

* July 19th-23rd Pittsfield (Weekdays) one or more days

  • 8:30AM - Laundry. Pick up and bring it back before noon. Cost will be covered.
  • 9:30AM to 4:45PM. Daily activity volunteer, assigned to a cabin for a full day or to a specific activity like swimming or hiking or crafts for a period of time. May do one or more days.
  • 9:30AM-Noon, Pittsfield. EACH morning. Will be assigned to a specific activity (crafts, an educational session, hiking, etc.)

* Tuesday, July 20th

  • 7-10PM in Pittsfield. "Counselor Relief". Camp planned evening activity with campers, get them ready for bed, read to them, play quiet games, watch talent show practice and spend time interacting with campers.

* Wednesday, July 21st

  • 9:30AM to Noon  + lunch “Senior Day”. Need 40 seniors minimum at the Lincoln Av Baptist Church Jacksonville NOT Pittsfield. Be a “grandparent” for the day as part of the camper service project to help them give back to the community. Work with a camper making placemats. Directions and materials will be given to you. Lunch is provided at noon.

* Thursday, July 22nd and/or Friday, July 23rd

  • 1:00 to 3:00PM Pack up camp. (Requires some lifting, some cleaning up of materials, and packing of extra supplies.)

* Friday, July 16th

  • 7:15 pm to? - TALENT SHOW audience in Pittsfield.

* Saturday, July 24th 

  • 10:00-10:45PM Check out at CAMP in Pittsfield.
  • 10:30AM to 12:30PM- Pick up luggage or materials at camp. Transport to drop off point. Help families/guardians load it into their vehicles.
  • 11:00AM-1:00PM Check out at 1st Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville
  • 12:30-2:00PM Check out Springfield (place to be decided)

Meal servers at camp. May sign up for 1 or more meals. Set tables, serve food, pour juice/milk, and clean up:

Sunday-Friday, July 18th -July 23rd
Dinner (3 people) 5:00PM-6:30PM.
Monday-Saturday, July 19th-24th
Breakfast 2-3 people 7:30-9:15AM.
Monday, July 19th-Friday, July 23rd NOT WEDNESDAY
Lunch 2-3 people. 11:30AM-1:30PM

EACH VOLUNTEER IS WELCOME TO HAVE THE MEAL WITH THE CAMPERS AND GET TO KNOW THEM A BIT. Please stay for the entire time given above. Leaving early may interfere with our follow-up programs.

NOTE: Camp is held near Pittsfield, Illinois, at the Mississippi Valley Christian Camp site, July 17, 2010 (for staff) 18th-24th (for campers). NOTE: SENIOR DAY will be in Jacksonville, REGISTRATION AND CHECK OUT WILL be in Springfield and Jacksonville.
