Volunteering at Camp Care-A-Lot and Camp Care-A-Lot, Too

Make a positive difference in the lives of children

Camp Care-A-Lot depends entirely on volunteers. 30 full time overnight staff and dozens of part time staff are needed to have a successful week at each camp, every year. The number of campers we can accommodate is directly related to the number of volunteers. 1 adult, age 21 or over, for every 3-4 campers is the ideal situation. Each cabin group consists of 2 counselors and a counselor assistant (age 18-20) with 7-9 campers. Junior counselors are chosen from a select group of past campers and they are part of many cabin groups as well. Staff orientation, where staff learns how to handle everyday activities and work with the children, is conducted for 1 & 1/2 days prior to camp. Counselors, especially male, are needed immediately. The following is a list of volunteer opportunities and their general responsibilities: June 13-20, 2009 is in Springfield and July 11-17, 2009 is for the Central Illinois Camp near Pittsfield. COMMITMENTS MUST BE MADE BY APRIL 30 FOR SPRINGFIELD AND BY JUNE 1 FOR PITTSFIELD IN ORDER THAT WE SUCCESSFULLY FACILITATE THE CAMP PROGRAM. THANKS. We especially need the Pittsfield and Jacksonville volunteers!!

When you make a commitment to either camp for ANY position, please kept the commitment. We rely on this help to make camp go more smoothly. Please do not plan on bringing anyone else that day, without prior permission by the camp director or executive director as this is for SECURITY reasons. All volunteers must be 21 or over and please do not bring your children "to help". Thanks for your help and dedication to the children of our future!!!

EACH DAY - 1:45 to 4:00 pm - 1 1/2 hrs - Children swim each afternoon.
Sunday-Friday, Springfield. The schedule is not set as of yet, but there will Sunday-Thursday, Pittsfield be 1 1/2 to 2 hours of time within the 1:30 to 4:00 pm time frame.

July 11, Pittsfield - 6:00 to 10:00 pm - Camp Set Up (unload crafts, clothes, linens and supplies, organize and set up) SAME as above
June 14 Springfield, July 12 (Sunday) Pittsfield - 11:30 to 1:30 pm - 7 vans or covered pick up trucks needed to transport camper luggage from drop off point to Camp.
June 14,Springfield July 12 (Sunday) Pittsfield - 11:00 to 1:30 pm - Registration, Pack up camper luggage, sign in campers OR greet parents/agency representatives.
June 14 Sunday, Springfield July 12 (Sunday) in Pittsfield - 1:30 to 4:30 pm - Swim, craft, or other volunteer activity at camp. (Direct ions and help will be given.)
June 15 (Monday) and /or June 17 (Wednesday) - 7-10PM Springfield, or July 13 and/or July 15, in Pittsfield. "Counselor Relief". Evening activity with campers and put them to bed and stay with them while the staff had their meeting(s).
June 15-19 Springfield or July 13-16 Pittsfield (Weekdays) - 9:30 am to 4:45 pm - Daily activity volunteer, assigned to a cabin for a full day or to a specific activity like swimming or hiking or crafts for a period of time. May do one or more days.
June 15-19 Springfield EACH morning!! 9:30-noon, July 13-16 - Pittsfield EACH 9:30 am to Noon - Will be assigned to a specific activity (crafts, an educational session, hiking, etc.
June 18 Springfield (Thursday) - 9:30 am to Noon + lunch - “Senior Day” (Be a grandparent for the0A day as part of the camper service project to help them give back to the community. Work with a camper making placemats. Directions and materials will be given to you. Lunch is provided at Noon. Wednesday, July 15, Central Illinois Camp-. NEED LOTS OF HELP!!!!!
The place will be Lincoln Av Baptist Church Jacksonville NOT Pittsfield.
June 18 and 19 Springfield (Thursday and Friday) 1:00 to 4:00 pm - Pack up camp. Requires some lifting, some cleaning up of materials, and packing of extra supplies. July 16 AFTER 4:00PM Pittsfield (Thursday) - Pack up camp. Requires some lifting, some cleaning up of materials, and packing of extra supplies.
June 19 Springfield (Friday) or July 16 (Thursday) Pittsfield- 7:15 pm to ? - TALENT SHOW. Children need you for an audience.
Ju ne 20 Springfield (Saturday) or July 17 (Friday) - 10:30 am to 12:30 pm - Pick up luggage at camp, transport to drop off point. Help load it into parents ’ vehicles.
June 20th Springfield (11:00-1:00 Temple B'rith Shalom) or July 17th (10:00-10:45 Pittsfield-at CAMP, and July 17th (11:00-1:00 at 1st Presbyterian Church, Jacksonville) - help with check out.

Meal servers in Spfld:
Breakfast 2 people Monday, June 15th through Saturday June 20th. Be at camp at 7:30 to help campers set tables and pour juice, etc. Help campers with the meals and then help them clean up. 9:30 End time.

Lunch 2 people Monday, June 15th-Friday, June 19th. Be at camp at 11:30 to help set up. Help serve food and pour juice, and clean up. 1:30 end time.

Dinner 2 people Sunday, June 14th-Thursday, June 18th.

Be at camp at 5:00 to help set tables. Help children with meals like cutting food and serving it, and help clean up. End time 6:45.

EACH VOLUNTEER IS WELCOME TO HAVE THE MEAL WITH THE CAMPERS AND GET TO KNOW THEM A BIT. You may volunteer for one or more meal, but please stay the entire time..... We frequently have had people leave at the end of the salad bar serving and then there is no help for campers to clear tables and clean up.

Meal servers in Pittsfield:
Breakfast 2 people Monday, July 13th through Friday, June 16th. Be at camp at 7:30 to help campers set tables and pour juice, etc. Help campers with the meals and then help them clean up. 9:30 End time.

Lunch 2 people Monday, July 13th, through Thursday, July 16th. Be at camp at 11:30 to help set up. Help serve food and pour juice, and clean up. 1:30 end time. (NO WEDNESDAY LUNCH VOLUNTEERS NEEED)

Dinner 2 people Sunday, July 12th-Thursday, July 16th.

Be at camp at 5:00 to help set tables. Help children with meals like cutting food and serving it, and help clean up. End time 6:45.

Springfield Camp
Camp is held at the Lake Springfield Baptist Camp site June 13 (for staff) 14 (for campers) -20, 2009 in Springfield for children in Springfield and Riverton.

Central Illinois Camp
Camp is held at the Mississippi Valley Christian Service Center si te, July 11 (for staff) 12 (for campers) -17, 2009 near Pittsfield, Illlinois for children in Central Illinois communities (other than Springfield and Riverton). NOTE: SENIOR DAY, REGISTRATION AND CHECK OUT WILL ALL BE IN JACKSONVILLE.
